Tarangire National Park — Baobabs, Elephants

About This Tz safaris

Landscape: Gently rolling woodlands and floodplains punctuated by ancient baobab trees and a seasonal Tarangire River that becomes a life-line during the dry season. Wide vistas with acacia and dense riverine forest near water.
Animals: Famous for enormous elephant aggregations, large herds of buffalo, plains antelope, lion and leopard. Exceptional birding — many migrants and waterbirds congregate along the river. In dry months animals cluster along the river, producing intense wildlife viewing.
History / notes: The park protects traditional migratory routes used seasonally by wildlife. Local communities (including Maasai) share landscape use with the park, and Tarangire’s baobabs are cultural landmarks in the region.
