About This Zbr safaris

Landscape:
Changuu (Prison Island) lies just off Stone Town. Despite its grim name, it is now a green sanctuary shaded by tropical vegetation and surrounded by clear, shallow waters.

Animals:

• The star attraction is the giant Aldabra tortoise, some over 150 years old, originally gifted from Seychelles in the 19th century.

• Peacocks, dik-diks, and colorful reef fish in the surrounding waters.

History & Notes:
Prison Island was once used as a detention and quarantine site. Over time, it transformed into a conservation sanctuary for tortoises, which now breed successfully on the island.
