About This Packages

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi / Arusha

  • Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).

  • Transfer to hotel in Moshi (the base town for treks).

  • Evening briefing with guides about the trek, gear check, and safety measures.

  • Overnight stay in Moshi.


Day 2: Machame Gate (1,800 m) → Machame Camp (3,000 m)

  • Duration: 5–7 hours trekking.

  • Distance: ~11 km.

  • Landscape: Lush rainforest with giant ferns, wild orchids, and monkeys (Colobus & blue monkeys).

  • Activities: Begin trek at Machame Gate after registration. Steady climb through rainforest, often misty and humid.

  • Overnight: Machame Camp (3,000 m).


Day 3: Machame Camp → Shira Camp (3,840 m)

  • Duration: 4–6 hours trekking.

  • Distance: ~5 km.

  • Landscape: Transition from rainforest to moorland zone with volcanic rocks, heather, and giant lobelias.

  • Activities: Ascend a steep ridge and enter open moorland. First clear views of Kibo and Shira Plateau.

  • Overnight: Shira Camp (3,840 m).


Day 4: Shira Camp → Lava Tower (4,630 m) → Barranco Camp (3,950 m)

  • Duration: 6–8 hours trekking.

  • Distance: ~10 km.

  • Landscape: Alpine desert with sparse vegetation, volcanic boulders, and views of glaciers.

  • Activities:

    • Ascend to Lava Tower (4,630 m) for acclimatization.

    • Lunch at high altitude.

    • Descend to Barranco Camp (3,950 m), nestled under the Great Barranco Wall.

  • Overnight: Barranco Camp.


Day 5: Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp (4,200 m)

  • Duration: 4–5 hours trekking.

  • Distance: ~5 km.

  • Landscape: Moorland and alpine desert, with breathtaking views of glaciers.

  • Activities:

    • Climb the Barranco Wall (a thrilling scramble, but non-technical).

    • Hike across ridges and valleys with views of Mount Meru in the distance.

  • Overnight: Karanga Camp (4,200 m).


Day 6: Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp (4,680 m)

  • Duration: 3–4 hours trekking.

  • Distance: ~4 km.

  • Landscape: Alpine desert, barren and windy, with icy conditions at night.

  • Activities:

    • Short trek to conserve energy for the summit push.

    • Rest at Barafu Camp, the base for summit night.

    • Early dinner and sleep by 7:00 pm.

  • Overnight: Barafu Camp.


Day 7: Summit Day – Barafu (4,680 m) → Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) → Mweka Camp (3,100 m)

  • Duration: 12–15 hours trekking.

  • Distance: ~16 km.

  • Activities:

    • Midnight wake-up. Start ascent with headlamps.

    • Steep climb to Stella Point (5,739 m) at sunrise — often emotional with views of Mawenzi Peak.

    • Final 1-hour trek along crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the Roof of Africa.

    • Descend to Barafu Camp for rest, then continue to Mweka Camp (3,100 m).

  • Overnight: Mweka Camp.


Day 8: Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate (1,640 m) → Moshi

  • Duration: 3–4 hours trekking.

  • Distance: ~10 km.

  • Landscape: Descend through lush rainforest, with birds and monkeys.

  • Activities:

    • Celebrate completion with certificate ceremony at Mweka Gate.

    • Transfer back to Moshi hotel for showers and relaxation.

  • Overnight: Moshi (or transfer to airport).
