About This Tz safaris
Landscape: A small but ecologically varied park: a shallow soda lake, fringe groundwater forest, acacia woodlands and the dramatic Rift Valley escarpment rising above the lake. Lush compared to surrounding plains.
Animals: Renowned for tree-climbing lions (occasionally seen resting in acacia branches), large troops of baboons, hippos near water, elephants, and spectacular flocks of flamingos when the lake is full. Superb birdlife overall.
History / notes: Lake Manyara lies on the edge of the Great Rift Valley and was long a hunting and grazing area before protected-area status. Its compactness makes it ideal for short safaris and combined itineraries.
