About This Tz safaris

Landscape: Huge wetlands and riverine systems centered on the Rufiji River, reedbeds, floodplains and mopane woodlands. Water shapes the experience: boat safaris, islands and channels replace the open-jeep focus of plain parks.
Animals: Iconic hippo and crocodile populations seen close from boats, elephants and buffalo near riverbanks, lion and leopard in drier areas, and very good waterbird diversity. Walking safaris are also possible with experienced guides.
History / notes: Formerly known as Selous Game Reserve, the area was re-declared a national park under the Nyerere name to strengthen protection. Its river systems and islands have supported both wildlife and human communities for generations.
