Landscape:
Located in the central part of Unguja (the main Zanzibar Island), Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park is a lush tropical forest made up of swamp forests, mangroves, and coastal thickets. Elevated boardwalks allow visitors to explore without disturbing the delicate environment.

Animals & Birds:

• Famous for the Zanzibar Red Colobus Monkey, an endemic primate species found nowhere else in the world.

• Other primates include the Syke’s monkey (blue monkey) and bush babies.

• Small antelopes like the Zanzibar duiker.

• Bird species such as Fischer’s turaco, hornbills, and kingfishers.

• Reptiles like chameleons and tree snakes are also spotted.

History & Notes:
The forest was declared a conservation area in the 1960s to protect the endangered red colobus monkeys. Today, it’s a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and the only national park in Zanzibar.
