Landscape:
Located in the central part of Unguja (the main Zanzibar Island), Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park is a lush tropical forest made up of swamp forests, mangroves, and coastal thickets. Elevated boardwalks allow visitors to explore without disturbing the delicate environment.
Animals & Birds:

Famous for the Zanzibar Red Colobus Monkey, an endemic primate species found nowhere else in the world.

Other primates include the Syke’s monkey (blue monkey) and bush babies.

Small antelopes like the Zanzibar duiker.

Bird species such as Fischer’s turaco, hornbills, and kingfishers.

Reptiles like chameleons and tree snakes are also spotted.
History & Notes:
The forest was declared a conservation area in the 1960s to protect the endangered red colobus monkeys. Today, it’s a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and the only national park in Zanzibar.
