Located just a short boat ride from Zanzibar’s Stone Town, Prison Island (also known as Changuu Island) is a fascinating historical site that offers a unique blend of rich history and natural beauty. Originally built in 1893 and was intended to be house of violent slaves from mainland before they were taken at stone town slave market. It then changes to a quarantine, and there are cells that was built to be prisons later. It is home to historical ruins, ancient structures, and a large population of giant Aldabra tortoises and peacock making it a must-visit for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
